Plastic Bag Bans

Oakland is set to follow San Francisco’s ban on plastic bags at retail stores grossing more than $1m. But surprise, surprise (not!) the plastic bag industry is cranky, filing suit over the measure. Countless plastic bags end up in our ocean, harming marine wildlife. Even China, a country that reportedly uses 3 billion plastic shopping bags a day is moving to ban ‘em. I say – BYOB – Bring Your Own Bag, whenever you can.

Hey, what’s with all the pink plastic bags in Chinatown? Every Oriental-looking person carries one, and they’re always pink. I wonder if China bans the bags, will we see the pink bags disappear from Chinatowns throughout the U.S.?
Thanks for posting…
I am glad to see that countries, states, and cities around the globe are taking action! Plastic bags are harmful to everything in so many ways –I always bring my own canvas totes!
