Towards A Resilience Pattern Language

If climate goes the way most scientists predict, then “resilience” is a word we’ll read ever more often. Last weekend I attended “Design 4 Resilience” and here is an example of what emerged:
Chris Byrne, a participant at D4R last Saturday, has catalyzed D4R’s first informal workgroup to discover a resilience pattern language. Chris’ curiosity, dialog skills, and insightful contributions to discussion inspired Peter+Trudy Johnson-Lenz, who blog at People & Place, to share their index of design philosophies for Chris to work with. I just spent the last three days at the annual Bioneers Conference. The closing speaker was Ann Leonard - creator of The Story of Stuff. Her talk inspired me to put together a few thoughts and a ‘presentation’.
The fastest path to sustainability, to meeting the goals of Kyoto, 350.org, etc is to make exponentially more use out of the world’s limited resources. Buying more personal stuff - however ‘green’ - isn’t going to get us there. Instead we need to tap technology (and common sense) to radically increase the use of the products and resources we have today. Here are a few examples…

I read FastCompany’s guide a couple of months ago but just came across it again. Its well worth reading if, as the title suggests, you’re looking to green your business.
